It’s been some time since I had a great first date. 1. Crazy Rich Asians
Written by Kevin Kwan, the first book in the Crazy Rich Asian series was published in 2013. By 2018, the first book was turned into a movie of the same name starring Henry Golding and Constance Wu! The movie was an instant hit and a pretty great option for your first date.
The story revolves around Rachel Chu, a Chinese-American professor at NYU who travels all the way to Singapore with her boyfriend Nick to attend a family wedding – there’s only one glitch. Nick’s family and friends happen to be filthy rich, and Rachel might just get branded as a gold digger.
Will Rachel’s relationship with Nick withstand all this drama?
2. Sweet Home Alabama
I first saw this film on a sad night with a bucket of popcorn, alone inside my room! It’s like every other ‘chick flick’ (are we still using that term?), but there’s a BIG twist. It’s got Reese Witherspoon romancing not just the delicious Patrick Dempsey but also the equally hot Josh Lucas.
Sweet Home Alabama is the perfect rom-com for the perfect date night. But, when the successful Melanie ends up engaged to her perfect boyfriend, she suddenly realizes that she needs to go back home to Alabama – because Melanie happens to be already married to her high school boyfriend!
Will Melanie divorce her former husband and move on with her life, or there’s more to the story than meets the eye?

3. The Graduate
There is a high possibility that you and your date are into movies with more intensive plots or just avid movie buffs who don’t enjoy simple ‘chick flicks’ – in that case, there’s nothing better than the 1967 classic, The Graduate starring Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft, and Katharine Ross.
The Graduate is based on a 1963 book by Charles Webb. The irony? Charles Webb wrote the book (of the same name) right after he graduated from college. The plot revolves around a recent graduate, Benjamin Braddock ends up in a sticky affair with Mrs. Robinson(the wife of Benjamin’s father’s partner in the business) and also falls for her daughter, Elaine.
Sounds pretty messy for a first date? Nah! Watch Dustin Hoffman gives his career-defining performance, and Mrs. Robinson is an icon in herself – watch it for them!
4. 10 Things I Hate About You
Based on William Shakespeare’s Taming Of The Shrew, 10 Things I Hate About You is one of my favorite movies of all time. Starring Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, 10 Things I Hate About You is one classic movie that you ABSOLUTELY must watch if you haven’t watched it yet!
When bad boy Patrick sings, ‘can’t take my eyes off you’ for his high school sweetheart Kat, the teenager inside me was super impressed! And oh, Heath, why did you have to be this cute! So watch it for Heath, if not for anything.
