Even if you are not a DC fan, you will already be knowing of the fact that there were rumours of Aquaman 2 to be produced and released in near future. How near was that future, no one knew – but now, we actually know! However, we dive in deep – pun intended – let’s just understand what exactly it is, especially for the ones who are not in the fandom.Aquaman, i.e. the first part, was released on December 21, 2018 and rapidly became a smash hit, grossing over $1.1 billion across the globe. Better yet, it is the highest-grossing film based on a character from DC comics; it actually broke The Dark Knight Rises records. Even when the film actually received mixed critical reviews, the visual effects, performances of the actors and the direction is praised heavily.
The fans however, do have a whole different factor of loving the movie. Can you guess what it is? Of course, you can! The actors Jason Momoa and Amber Heard – who play Aquaman/Arthur Curry and Mera respectively – are favorite among the people and therefore can be said to be the primary reason of people flooding (again, pun intended) the theatres to see the movie. The success was transformed into discussions of releasing a sequel, the news which was then confirmed in January 2019. Warner Bros. did give us a tentative release date, i.e. December 16, 2022, whereas the production set will be start in the year 2020 itself.
A lot could change in these two years, as the first one was released in 2018 and the second will be releasing almost after two years from now on. Momoa, being the perfect, considerate celebrity that he is, has given a little piece of information for us fans to stew over. Last year he told that “It’s all mapped out,”in RadioTimes.com. “But I wouldn’t say they’ve got the final script just yet.“That’s not filming ’til next year .”The trailer won’t be available to us till somewhere around the film’s actual release date. The trailer for the first movie was released at San Diego Comic Con, and it is likely that people will see the trailer to the next film in this event as well.
What Aquaman 2 will be showing is Black Manta’s pressing vengeance for Aquaman’s transgressive deeds in the first film. In the first film, the story only went so as to show the origin of the classic villain. It makes sense, however, that his second outing is the logical time to unleash his full potential as Aquaman’s arch-nemesis. The mid-credits scene in Aquaman heavily indicated how Black Manta would take the main role in the sequel. He will be presumably wake up in a shack owned by Dr. Stephen Shin, who is an obsessive Atlantean conspiracy theorist (played by Randall Park). The two will strike a deal, where Manta will lead Shin to Atlantis, and Shin will, in turn, lead Manta to Aquaman. This story will move forward with many phenomenal scenes and points to include, thanks to Aquaman’smore than 50 years’ worth of comics history to look to for inspiration.
“I can tell you that [James Wan’s] concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further,” teased Patrick Wilson. He plays the Orm Marius/Ocean Master in the movie. “Of course, I want to know everything, but I also have a great respect for him and the process to know that I’m OK staying out of it until it’s late in the game. Sometimes, there’s so much information that I don’t ask because I don’t want to know, and I don’t want him to go, ‘I can’t tell you that yet.’”
The producers have decided, however, to just bless you with more content, just before the second movie comes out. In February 2019, Warner Bros. announced a spin-off, by the name ‘The Trench’, which is in development. This spin off will not only focus over some slimy, amphibious monsters that Aquaman and Mera will have to face, but it will also act as a sort of bridge between the two movies, filling in the remaining gaps. Even if there’s the wait of two years, the fans are eagerly awaiting its smooth and fluid (again, pun intended) arrival, exactly like a Christmas gift!
