Ensuring that your kitchen is clean and sanitary is perhaps one of the most important parts of cleaning your home. After all, the kitchen is where you prepare your food, and for most homes it’s also the place where they eat and spend a lot of time.
That’s why we reached out to professional cleaning service Castle Keepers – Altanta to share their tips on kitchen cleaning. If you apply this list to your regular kitchen cleaning, you will ensure that your kitchen is clean and sparkling, but more importantly – sanitary and healthy.
The Garbage Can
Most people look at the garbage can and clean it superficially – just clean the lid with a cleaner and hope that resolves the issue. And the issue is often more serious than the cleaning would suggest – the foul smells, trash residue, or even liquids that pool when the trash is removed.
Every once in a while, you will need to clean the trash can in greater detail. And here’s how. Empty the can and mix some white vinegar, some dish soap, and some water into a spray bottle and spray it on the inside of the can. Repeat that a few times and rinse it for the best results. Once the can is dry add some baking soda to the bottom of the can to absorb the smells. Replace the baking soda about once a week and the odors should subside.
The Inside of the Cabinets
This is a cleaning step that isn’t necessary very often, but doing it once or twice a year should be useful. Not only will you be able to remove any expired foods that might be hiding in your cabinets, but you will also ensure that your cabinets are clean and don’t attract any kinds of pests.
Simply empty the cabinet you’re cleaning and vacuum the bigger debris from it if needed. Once that’s done, all you need is some dish soap and warm water. Dip a clean cloth in the mixture and wipe down the insides of the cabinets. Finish the cleaning with a dry cloth or a kitchen towel to absorb any remaining moisture and you’re done. Now you need to organize the contents of the cabinets before you put them back.
The Coffee Maker
Most homes in America have a coffee maker – they’re simple to use and make coffee making just so much simpler. However, if you think when the last time you cleaned your coffee maker, chances are that you won’t be able to remember.
And cleaning it is so simple and quick that you will wonder why you never bothered. All you need to do is put equal parts water and vinegar and run the machine through half a cycle, pause it for about half an hour and run the rest of the cycle.
Once that’s done, make sure you clean the reservoir with dish soap and hot water. Put the machine through two more cycles with just water – this will ensure that the machine is cleaned and filtered of any remains of soap.
The Cutlery Tray
Washing your cutlery after every use is normal and expected – but what about your cutlery tray. After all, that’s where the cutlery will sit until it’s ready to use.
Cleaning the cutlery tray is fairly simple – all you need to do is take the cutlery out, empty any debris that may have found their way in the tray and wash it in a dishwasher (if made of a supported material), or just hand wash it. Once dry, just replace the cutlery and you’re ready for another week.
Adding these tasks to your kitchen cleaning routine doesn’t take up much more time, but it will ensure that your kitchen is that much cleaner and safer for your family.
